Building Code Requirements and Specification for Masonry Structures and Related Commentaries (2013), also know as the MSJC, contains Building Code Requirements for Masonry Structures (TMS 402-13, ACI 530-13, ASCE 5-13), Specification for Masonry Structures (TMS 602-13, ACI 530.1-13, ASCE 6-13) and related commentaries. The included code covers the design and construction of masonry structures and covers topics such as definitions, contract documents, quality assurance, materials, placement of embedded items, analysis and design, strength, serviceability, flexural/axial loads, shear, reinforcement, walls, columns, pilasters, beams, lintels, seismic design requirements, glass unit masonry, veneers and autoclaved aerated concrete masonry. An empirical design method and a prescriptive method applicable to buildings meeting specific location and construction criteria are also included. The specification is concerned with minimum construction requirements for masonry in structures and covers subjects such as quality assurance requirements for materials; the placing, bonding and anchoring of masonry, aand the placement of grout and of reinforcement. The specification is meant to be modified and referenced in project manuals. The code is written as a legal document and the specification is written as a master specification required by the code. The commentaries present background details, committee considerations, and research data used to develop the code and specification. This publication represents a major update from the 2011 edition both in technical requirements and layout.
- Complete reformatting of the document into a more user friendly format
- Addition of an Appendix on an optional limit design method for special reinforced masonry shear walls
- A new Chapter for the prescriptive design of masonry partition wallls
- Movement of the empirical provisions into an Appendix
- Change to permit a moment magnifier approach for the design of reinforced clay, concrete masonry and autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) masonry walls
- Revisions of design requirements for partially grouted shear walls
- Changes to the requirements for joint reinforcement and seismic clips for anchored veneer in SDC D, E and F.
This publication will be referenced by the 2015 Interntional Building Code (IBC) for the design and construction of structural masonry, veneer and glass unit masonry.
